Water Reuse Facility Takes Pressure Off of Aquifer
Tallahassee recently opened the region's first water reuse facility. It supplements the more than $200 million city commitment to wastewater treatment improvements to protect groundwater and Wakulla Spring. The plant takes a portion of the treated wastewater bound for the City's Southeast Farm facility so the reclaimed water can be used for irrigation purposes at golf courses, athletic fields, and medians and landscaping. The project represents a successful partnership between the City's Water Utility, Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the Northwest Florida Water Management District and the St. Joe Company.
