Ten-mile Canal Filter Marsh Improves Water Quality

Florida Department of Environmental Protection collaborated with South Florida Water Management District and various citizen groups to clean nutrient-rich water in Ten-mile canal which drains into Mullock Creek and ultimately into Estero Bay. The project involved the creation of a mile-long filter marsh adjacent to the canal. Water is diverted from the canal into the filter marsh where wetlands plants remove nutrients and pollutants from the water.
